They often complained about foul smells and noisy neighbours. We have brought several residents back to life: a woman who bequeathed her house to her husband as a life estate, and a chaplain who married a nun after the Reformation; a wealthy citizen from a cloth merchant dynasty and a Zurich woman who married her first husband for love and survived her second as a Reformer's widow, as well as impoverished Begines who earned their living through weaving and begging.
